An open digital voice network: DVPX

DVPX is an open digital voice protocol built for the Digi Voice ecosystem. It follows DMR semantics β€” talkgroups, private calls and PTT β€” with no dependency on any licensed vocoder: audio is processed by the DVPX Voice Engine, which we built from the ground up, and carried over the air by DVPX Digital Modulation. You can join the network from a phone or a computer, no radio required.

πŸ“‘ Reflectors On Air

Reflectors carry the audio. Your app fetches this list automatically β€” no manual server entry needed. If one stops responding, the app moves on to the next.

πŸ“² How do I connect?

  1. Install the Digi Voice app.
The Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux builds all join the same network.
  2. Settings β†’ Protocol & Server β†’ Protocol Mode β†’ DVPX
DVPX sits at the top of the list. The moment you pick it, the reflector and talkgroup lists are fetched centrally β€” you never type a server address, a port or a panel URL. The refresh button next to it re-fetches the list if it looks stale.
  3. Settings β†’ Credentials β†’ Callsign
(On iOS and macOS the section is called "Identification".) As soon as you type your callsign, the "Digital ID" field pulls the DMR IDs registered to it from radioid.net; pick one if there are several, or type it in by hand. If you want to run a second device under the same identity, give it an ESSID (-1 … -99); leave it empty for a single device.
  4. No password, no application form.
With DVPX selected there is no password field at all: your identity is simply your callsign and your DMR ID. There is nothing to apply for either β€” your record is created automatically on your first connection.
  5. Pick a talkgroup on the main screen and tap Connect.
The group comes from a drop-down fed by the panel β€” you never type a number. The Connect button stays disabled until a target is chosen. Once connected you can switch groups straight from the menu, without disconnecting.
  6. Hold PTT and talk.
Your transmission shows up on the live list of this page immediately.
  7. Optionally, start a full-duplex call.
With private call selected, turn on the "Full Duplex" switch and tap "Start full-duplex call". The other station rings; once they accept, both microphones open and you talk like on a phone call, never touching PTT. Either side can end the call at any time.
πŸ› οΈ Want to run a reflector?

A reflector is the server where DVPX users meet. By adding your own server to the network you let stations in your area hear each other.

How? Three steps:
  1. Create an authorised account. Sign up with your callsign. It is free.
  2. File a reflector request. Give your server address; your request is reviewed.
  3. Install and go live. Once approved your API token lands on your panel; follow the guide and install.
What do you need? A computer that runs 24/7 and is reachable from the internet (a VPS or a mini PC such as a Raspberry Pi is fine) and a STATIC public IP. A domain name is even better. You only need to open two ports; the software has no external dependencies.
Not sure yet? Read the guide first β€” requirements, commands and common mistakes are explained step by step. You can read it without signing up.

ℹ️ What is DVPX?

DVPX separates signalling from audio transport: login, talkgroup subscription and keepalives travel over a reliable TCP connection, while voice goes over UDP to keep latency low. The DVPX Voice Engine splits speech into 20-millisecond frames and DVPX Digital Modulation carries them across the network. A lost packet therefore never drops the session β€” it costs a single 20-millisecond slice of audio.

🎧

Our own voice engine

The DVPX Voice Engine was built by us from the ground up: 8 kHz, mono, 20 ms frames, 20 kbit/s. The voice engine's vocoder name is GEVEZE. Packet-loss concealment is built in, so speech stays intelligible even on a poor link. No licensed or patent-encumbered vocoder is involved.

NEW
πŸ“ž

Full-duplex calling

Just like a phone call: two-way conversation at the same time, without holding PTT. An invitation goes to the other station and once accepted both microphones open β€” you can interrupt, interject and hold a natural conversation.

πŸ“»

Familiar DMR semantics

Talkgroup calls, person-to-person private calls and PTT. You join with your DMR ID, and one operator can separate several devices with an ESSID.

πŸ›οΈ

Central administration

Users, talkgroups and permissions live in a single panel. Reflectors only carry audio, and an unapproved reflector is never distributed to the apps.

πŸ“±

Every device

The Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux apps all join the same network. You can get on the air with the phone in your pocket or the computer on your desk β€” no radio needed.
